Mike Flavin opened up the Judy Coder show with beautiful tunes and soothing melodies.  Mike and his family have been  great friends of Heart to Heart.  If you ever get the chance to hear Mike sing,  you will realize the enormous talent we have right here in Harvey County.  Mike has been able to join two of his talents, his auction abilities and his singing abilities into a fantastic combination.  To hear him sing about the Auction man is a song that will not be forgotten.
    Mike offered his auction talents to Heart to Heart at the American Legion for the Heart to Heart Valentine dance.  We like having great freinds like Mike and his family helping Heart to Heart.

The Judy Coder show came to the Fox Theater on Saturday night, April 12th.  The music was smooth and tight.  Some said it brought them back to a time of their childhood.  Songs of the prairie, Kansas sky and lives of cowboys rang out in the historic fox theater.  Heart to Heart thanks all the sponsors that made the show possible and all the people who came, purchased tickets and enjoyed an evening of fine entertainment.  Mike Flavin opened the night with the song of the auction man, if you have not heard Mike sing, you need to make it a point of catching him next time he has his guitar near by.  Our thanks to Dan Suderman for the use of the Fox Theater and all he had done to have the sound and lighting just right.
The Valentine Dance at the American Legion was nothing short of fantastic.  Dancers glided across the dance floor to the music of Larry Thomson's band.  There was some two stepp'n going on, line dances, and even the "twist" was spotted by a Heart to Heart Board member and the Harvey County Attorney.  Mike Flavin and his wife volunteered to Auction off items donated by many Newton merchants and individuals.  Everyone dug into their pockets and purchased raffle tickets for the many many unique gifts.  All money raised from the donation of admission, auction, and raffle all went to Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center to help with cost of art therapy for the children.  The American Legion, who have been great supporters of Heart to Heart over the years, allowed Heart to Heart to use their facilities in order to host the dance.  A fine crowd of Heart to Heart supporters braved the cold rain on Saturday night and found the warmth of friendship and good times on the dance floor.

Our Heart felt thanks go out to all those who contributed to this fund raiser:
American Legion, Grabers Hardware, Citizens State Bank, Midland Bank, Those Blasted signs, Sports Gill & Bar, Realty Connections, Newells, Patriot Pawn, Hill Top Convenient store, Coldwell Banker, Clayworks, Heart to Heart Vending, John Beeson, Long John Silvers, Conoco One Stop, Sand Creek Golf Station, Sears, Lou's Sporting goods, Heritage Home Furnishings, Anderson Liquor, and Beauticontrol by Twila.

Heart to Heart along with Mokas will be sponsoring an Angel tree.  Come to Mokas and pick up an Angel.  You don't have to wrap the presents, you can just bring them back to Mokas or to Heart to Heart at 201 E 6th.  We have 32 children whose names will be on the tree

The Angel Tree at Mokas is ready for you to pick an Angel and provide a gift to a needy child.  Mokas has been a great supporter of Heart to Heart and to the children of the community.  It is nice to have a business like Mokas so involved with Heart to Heart.  The manager of Mokas, Ali, is a good friend to the Heart to Heart program.  Bring your gifts, unwrapped, back to Mokas or to Heart to Heart by December 14th.  We want to thank the Salvation Army in helping us with this project, and the Sports Bar and Grill for allowing us to use their business on December 15th to wrap all the presents for the children.

The Angel's from the Angel tree at Mokas were all adopted by our great community of friends.  Presents were purchased and poured in to Mokas, Heart to Heart and the Newton Police Department.  The challenge for Heart to Heart was to get all those presents for over 36 children wrapped, sorted and delivered.   Heart to Heart elves gathered at the Sports Grill to begin the wrapping phase.  Tricia Wells, owner and long time supporter of Heart to Heart, gave the elves the whole back portion of her business to sort and wrap toy after toy after toy.  Decorative paper, bows and ribbons mingled with laughter and song flew through the air and after four hours of taping and folding paper, all presents were adorned in festive wrappings.  Chief Elf, Karen Walton, took over the planning for overseeing which gift went to which Angel and having them all properly assorted to get to the right address's.  How she did it all, no one knows.  It must have been Christmas magic.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Our fine young Officers of the Newton Police Department, became Heart to Heart Christmas elves on Christmas eve.  One of the many tasks they had for Christmas eve was to deliver all the presents from The Heart to Heart Angel tree.  We couldn't ask for a finer team of elves.  They delivered over a hundred gifts to children  in our community.  Our heart felt thanks go out to everyone who made this years Heart to Heart angel tree such a great success.  Each of you, from the person who bought the gift, to the elves who delivered them, made a difference in the life of many children this Christmas.
Golfing is fun, but nothing is better then golfing for the Heart to Heart miniature golf fund raiser.  2008 marked the 7th annual Heart to Heart miniature golf tourney.  Teams came and competed for the traveling trophy and for individual trophies.  The skills and talents on display were beyond all words.  Participating this year were the following teams and heart to heart hero's;

The Flamingo Girls,  Chisholm trail, Heart to Heart Vending, Newton SRS, Miss Kay Team,  Those Blasted Ctiy Signs team, The Kansan, and City Service Team.

Last Year Midland National Bank walked away with the traveling trophy.  Knowing the competition was going to be really difficult this year, Midland failed to enter a team and lost the traveling trophy to a created team, "Those Blasted City Signs Team.  Second place went to City Service and third place and finally getting a trophy over all
these years, Heart to Heart Vending.

 The winners of the traveling trophy, "Those Blasted City Signs.  What  a tough bunch of competitors.  Who will be able to get the trophy next year?  Will Midland National Bank answer the call, or will they cower in fear of the talents and skills of these tough miniature golf players?

Fun was had by all, and cheating was unheard of this year.  Special score officials joined the tournament this year after reports from last year to the Tournament commisioner that there had been some Charlie Chaplan handicaps, and mis scorings.

Our Heart to Heart felt thanks go out to all the great sponsors, and to all the great folks who came out and played in this years trounament.  Hope to see you all again next year, and for those of you who would like to become a part of the fun, make sure you get a team in by contacting Heart to Heart at 284-6029
